A distinctive benefit of AUSL’s two-part mission is our ability to create a pipeline of talent to provide human capital to our Turnaround Schools. Each of our Turnaround Schools is staffed by a mix of specially prepared graduates of our residency program, who are complemented and mentored by highly experienced urban teachers.

Our Urban Teacher Residency program combines our expertise in preparing teachers to succeed in high-poverty, chronically underperforming urban schools with individuals committed to making a real difference in the lives of these children.

This ongoing development of specially prepared teachers is our unique pipeline of talent for our Turnaround Schools.


AUSL is the first Educational Management Organization (EMO) in Chicago to develop and implement a Turnaround strategy for school transformation. Our transformations involve real change in school culture and student achievement.
