Highly trained teachers, supported by AUSL’s core school elements, are the fundamental basis of our approach to instruction at all our schools.

The five core elements of our model for schools with a healthy culture and a high academic achievement level are:

Teachers have the preparation and the support needed to succeed and stay in a high-poverty, urban school environment.

School leaders are effective, proactive leaders with extensive formal training and a commitment to AUSL’s core school elements.

A positive school culture prevails throughout, including embedded support for student social and emotional learning.

Content, instruction, and assessment are aligned; teaching practices are adjustable and differentiated, and a broad set of academic interventions are readily available to close achievement gaps.

Extended learning opportunities are standard, not the exception.

Our Training Academy schools exemplify the achievement and school culture goals for our Turnaround schools. We believe that well-prepared and supported teachers, in partnership with strong school leadership, create the conditions necessary to transform a low-performing school into an environment where students can succeed and graduate with meaningful choices.
