AUSL is Chicago Public Schools' lead partner in transforming its chronically underperforming neighborhood schools. Through the turnaround school model, which is applied each year to a handful of persistently underperforming CPS schools, the school is reconstituted at the end of a school year and all employees are replaced by staff selected by AUSL. AUSL has transformed twelve turnaround schools since 2006, and anticipates adding 6 new schools to the AUSL network in 2012.
AUSL turnaround schools are learning communities where teachers develop as professionals, enriching their students' lives and strengthening our entire network of schools. Consider joining the staff at an AUSL turnaround school if you want to:
Make a difference in the lives of students. Our teachers get to know their students so that they can create realistic and culturally relevant instruction. Teachers use frequent formative assessments to check student knowledge and assess additional academic needs. High expectations, new curriculum, and real rigor lead to dramatic gains in student achievement and satisfied parents and community members. Hear from one of our teachers.
Join a team of talented, like-minded educators. All employees of AUSL turnaround school are selected for the distinct challenge of ensuring rapid transformation of a struggling school into a school of excellence. At AUSL schools, school-based CPS employees (principal, AP, teachers, ESP staff) are supplemented by AUSL employees (coaches, tutors, and other specialists).
Experience a positive school culture that supports teaching and learning. AUSL schools create a culture and climate in which students learn effective systems to manage themselves in school and to optimize their learning experience. We teach students to be more organized, to become self-disciplined individuals, and to positively contribute to their learning community.
