What are the eligibility requirements to participate in the program?

All applicants must have:

Earned a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution by June 2010, with a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or better on the last 60 semester hours of coursework.

Complete AUSL's online application, supplying all requested supporting documentation by the deadlines for the selected application cycle shown in the timeline below. We encourage you to apply early in the cycle, as class size is limited.

Have the required coursework to become certified in the state of Illinois and within Chicago Public Schools. See the coursework requirements needed to become a certified teacher in Chicago Public Schools through AUSL’s program here.

I’m interested in AUSL’s teacher training & certification program. How do I apply?

Step 1: Apply and submit a complete online application here for one of our four rolling admissions application deadlines as stated below.

Please refer to the admissions timetable below
for ALL admission dates.

Step 2: Send in all supplemental documentation to our admissions office by the dates corresponding to the appropriate deadline. All supplemental documentation must be submitted to proceed to the interview stage. Please allow adequate time for submitting supplemental documents to our admissions office, as transcript requests at universities take a few weeks.

For non-certified applicants, supplemental documents include:

Submit one official transcript from each university attended, even if you only took one class there.

Submit documentation of appropriate content area & basic skills test statuses. Either:

Supply documentation of passing basic skills and appropriate content area test scores
~ OR ~

Supply official registration documentation for basic skills and appropriate content area tests to be taken by 4/2010. (These tests MUST be taken by 4/2010 in order to be eligible for the program.)

These registrations act as placeholders for your test scores.

You can register for the tests at www.icts.nesinc.com

Review our testing page to ascertain which tests you will need to take in order to become a certified teacher in Illinois though our teacher training program.

Fill out and submit an appropriate Transcript Evaluation sheet which breaks down the coursework needed to teach though our program. This sheet can be found in the coursework requirement section of our testing & eligibility page; they are organized by specified content area and grade level.

For currently certified applicants, supplemental documents include:

Submit one official transcript from each university attended, even if you only took one class there

Submit a copy of Proof of Certification
