Chicago Teacher Residency program graduates are a critical pipeline of teacher talent for AUSL's schools.

Turnaround Schools: Following the training year, most AUSL residents will be offered employment as a Chicago Public Schools teacher in an AUSL-managed turnaround school. AUSL’s network currently includes 12 turnaround schools and is expected to grow each year. (more)

Selection and Placement: Each spring, AUSL principals observe residents in the classroom and select new teachers for their schools.

Graduates are Placed as a Cohort: Depending on the size of the school, ten or more residents are placed at each new turnaround school along with other experienced teachers and staff hired to complete the school’s staff.

Ongoing Coaching, Development, and Support: AUSL’s model for creating and sustaining high-performing schools includes programs focused on ensuring the success of each teacher, including:

Three to five weeks of paid summer professional development prior to the opening of new turnaround schools

Full-time coaches in each school who observe, advise, and support teachers with individualized observations and feedback

Assessments, technology tools, curriculum developers, and other resources to support teachers as they differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every child.

AUSL program graduates are committed and successful urban teachers in Chicago. Residents commit to teaching for 4 years following the training year in a high-needs Chicago Public School.
